Italian State-owned television channel Rainews24 decided to stop broadcasting any video by ISIS. On 25th of February director Monica Maggioni explained that from now on the news regarding ISIS videos will be reported just using a still frame and a description of the content. The decision has been taken after discussing it for several months and, according to Rainews24 director, it aims at not becoming a “tool for the ISIS propaganda”.

Maggioni named ISIS "terror Hollywood" that takes advantage of good video production and editing techniques to spread fear and recruit fighters all over the world. Hence, in her opinion, it is the channel’s duty not to contribute to it. The announcement was widely reported by Italian newspapers and triggered a debate about the role of journalism.

While some journalists agreed with the channel’s decision, some others claimed that the media has no right to ‘hide’ the information it gets; besides, ISIS videos will spread anyway via websites and unofficial channels.  The latest video released by Rainews24 was on 23rd of February, showing children being trained to become “IS cubs”.
