The decision to reorganize the local public broadcaster taken by the Supervisory Board of Teleradio Gagauzia (TRG) aims at destroying the company, claimed Ana Harlamenco after the Board dismissed her from the position of TRG Director, replacing her with Stepan Piron.

On Monday, April 27, the former TRG Director urged the media to support freedom of expression and to defend the public broadcaster. "I appeal to the whole community of national and international journalists, to each and every journalist, urging for founding an association for the protection of freedom of speech and the dignity of journalists... We defend them all, but nobody defends us", wrote Ana Harlamenco in her open address to journalists, mentioning that the reason for such address was "the dramatic situation regarding the public broadcaster of Gagauzia.

The decision to dismiss the director and reorganize the company was taken last week. At the meeting of the Supervisory Board, Deputy Chair Nicolai Tucan reported on a decision of the Court of Accounts of Gagauzia, which identified a number of violations in the activity of the company. "Given the financial violations revealed by the Court of Accounts and the refusal to comply with recommendations, unwillingness to cooperate with the Supervisory Board, professional incompetence in the management of the institution, we propose that Ana Harlamenco be dismissed from the position of Director the Public Broadcasting Company, as provided by the Labour Code", reads the decision of the Supervisory Board.

Ana Harlamenco disagrees and challenged the decision in court. The Former Director of Teleradio Gagauzia qualified the decision as a "raider attack aimed at handing the company over to Stepan Piron", who is also the owner of a cable TV company and holds an interest in "gaining control over the assets of the company, in the context of shifting to digital television".

In her opinion, it is exactly what is happening now, "with the support of the leadership of the People's Assembly and of the Supervisory Board".
