Student Ana Indoitu runs the “Invento” organization and is the Vice-President of the National Youth Council of Moldova, which develops projects for young people and provides opportunities for them to become involved in different fields of work while they are still in school. The guest spoke to participants about various projects through the prism of her own experiences, from her work in her hometown to international programs like Flex, which offers the opportunity to study for a year in an educational establishment in the U.S. and to live in an American family.
Corina Erhan, President of the Center for Youth in Orhei town, spoke about projects that can be developed for young people and by young people locally. She recommended to participants to get to know the community map, which means to be up to date with all the institutions in the area where the young person is located and where he or she can get help and become involved in various projects.
Young people volunteering in various fields can be a valuable opportunity for discovering their vocation, Corina said, urging those present to show initiative and to knock on doors, because there are professionals ready to help them put their ideas into practice.
Viorica Zaharia, President of the Press Council, addressed the subject of media education, which is an important aspect for correct informing of young people. The journalist spoke about issues such as the structure of a news story, the questions a news story must answer so as not to leave room for interpretation and manipulation. Young people learned how to draw inspiration from success stories that appear in the press and where they can find information about various opportunities.
Ion Cernei, journalist from the local newspaper “Cuvântul”, spoke about the newspaper’s collaboration with readers and about an older initiative of “Cuvântul”, to publish interviews with prominent people who were born in the region, which are then gathered into volumes titled “Interviews from Home”.
At the end of the event, attendees also enjoyed a cultural program. Young filmmaker Liviu Rotaru presented his latest spot, “You can”, launched in the context of March 8, and his first short film, “Shadow”", released in December 2016, which addresses the issue of migration. Liviu told students about his experiences as a film director and how he managed to produce several video projects on the money he earned from competitions.
Student Valentina Cristea, participant in the meeting, told us she found that volunteering can give young people many opportunities, and her colleague Ion Atamanenco believes that the participation of young people in such events is important because it motivates them and offers them useful information.
