The three candidates who got the most votes from MPs in the parliamentary commission for the media are Tatiana Buraga, Dorina Curnic and Veronica Cojocaru. Other eight candidates (Leonid Smolnițchi, Cornelia Stefoglu, Carmelia Albu, Lucia Beiu, Iurie Ursu, Alexandru Verșinin, Liubovi Calicișcova-Tataru, Aurelia Peru-Balan) did not get the majority of votes from the members of the commission, and one candidate (Aurelia Leorda-Paniș) withdrew from the contest.
If the three winners of the contest pass the vote in the plenum of the Parliament, they will replace BCC members Dinu Ciocan, Nicolae Damaschin and Mariana Onceanu-Hadârcă, whose term in office has expired.
At the same meeting, members of the commission approved Larisa Călugăru for the membership in the Supervisory Board of Teleradio-Moldova after she received more votes than her counter-candidate Doina Deleu.
Two members of the parliamentary commission for the media, MPs Maria Ciobanu and Lilian Carp, left the meeting when the commission’s chairman Vladimir Hotineanu announced the examination of this issue, and Maria Ciobanu suggested that the names of winners had been determined before examination in the commission.
According to the Broadcasting Code, candidates for membership in the BCC are selected by the specialized parliamentary commission and by the Parliamentary Commission on Legal Issues, Appointments and Immunities, which then forward the selected candidates to the Parliament for confirmation. “If a candidate for membership in the BCC fails to obtain the necessary number of votes in the Parliament, the specialized parliamentary commission and the Parliamentary Commission on Legal Issues, Appointments and Immunities shall propose a new candidate within 2 weeks.”
