BC members decided to monitor the main newscasts of Moldova 1, Publika TV, Prime TV, Primul în Moldova, TVR Moldova, TV6, Canal 2, Canal 3, TV8, NTV Moldova, Jurnal TV, ProTV Chisinau, 10 TV, BTV, and RTR Moldova. Some of the monitored television stations do not have national coverage.
The BC member Lidia Viziru proposed monitoring the 10 TV station instead of the public station Moldova 2, which announced that it would broadcast the newscasts from Moldova 1 during the electoral campaign. “Although this station did not present the statement regarding the coverage of the electoral campaign, I would like to see how 10 TV covers this campaign in its newscasts,” Lidia Viziru explained.
She noted that this television station actually covers electoral campaigns although it does not submit statements regarding their coverage.
She also proposed the BC to monitor only the main newscasts, and not all the programs aired.
The BC President Ala Ursu-Antoci proposed excluding Radio Moldova Tineret from the list of broadcasters subject to monitoring, suggesting RTR Moldova television station to be included instead.
Her colleague, Larisa Manole, suggested including Accent TV into the list of monitored stations in addition to RTR Moldova. However, Ala Ursu-Antoci proposed monitoring the regional station BTV instead of Accent TV. “We will have 10 TV instead of Moldova 2, RTR Moldova instead of Radio Moldova Tineret, and, in addition, we will have BTV,” concluded Ala Ursu-Antoci.
The BC members unanimously voted for approval of the list of televisions to be subject to thematic monitoring during the electoral campaign.
At today’s meeting the BC also approved the statements of 100 audiovisual media service providers (51 televisions and 49 radio stations) regarding the coverage or non-coverage of the electoral campaign for the early parliamentary elections of July 11, 2021. At the same time, 17 audiovisual media service providers failed to submit statements, so now Noroc TV, Gurinel TV, MBC, Popas TV, TV Bizim Dalgazim, Eni Ai, 10 TV, Gold TV, Bravo TV, and CTC do not have the right to cover the electoral campaign for the early parliamentary elections.
According to the law, every two weeks the BC must submit to the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) monitoring reports on the coverage of the electoral campaign by national broadcasters. The reports must contain information on broadcasters’ compliance with election coverage regulations in all programs. Two days before the elections, the BC will present a summary report to the CEC.
