Opinion Poll//Top TV Channels Whose News Are Most Watched by the Citizens

Jurnal TV, Pro TV Chisinau, and Prime TV rank among the top TV channels citizens choose for watching the news, according to the recent opinion poll conducted on commission from the Watchdog non-governmental organization by the sociologists at CBS-AXA in partnership with the Public Policies Institute and presented on June 9.

In addition to political, economic, and other issues, the sociologists also examined citizens’ preferences regarding TV channels they choose to learn more about the events of public importance. The respondents were asked to list the top three channels whose news they watched. According to the results, Jurnal TV was mentioned by the respondents most often (24.1%), followed by Pro TV Chisinau (23.2%) and Prime TV (22.4%).

Moldova 1 public channel accumulated 21.2%, and TV8 accounted for 19.1%.

Such TV channels as NTV Moldova and Publika TV ranked next with 14.9% and 14.6%, respectively. RTR Moldova accumulated 11.2%, and Primul in Moldova had 9.9%.

Canal 2, Canal 3, TVR Moldova, N4, Accent TV, and Balti TV gained from 3.5% to 0.3%.

Approximately 21% of the respondents claimed they did not watch TV, and about 8% preferred the “other channel” option.

The poll was conducted from June 2 to June 8; the sample amounted to 1154 respondents. The interviews were conducted by telephone. The survey admits a maximum margin of error of +/- 2.9% and is funded by the European Endowment for Democracy within the project “Countering Disinformation and Promoting Election Integrity.”
