A TV platform has been launched in Moldova that allows watching 33 local and international channels online without purchasing a TV subscription. In addition, the Cable TV service has been launched, offering over 60 television channels.

Telecommunications operator StarNet, in partnership with the multimedia content distributor TV Box, announced at a press conference about the implementation of a new project of online television – www.magictvbox.org. It allows watching 33 TV channels from all over the world and provides citizens overseas with direct connection to information sources in Moldova.

“The project offers a number of advantages of online television related to freedom and technology. I would like to mention, first of all, the mobility for those who lead an active lifestyle, often change their place of residence or travel a lot. They will be able to access TV channels through various gadgets (laptop, smartphone or tablet), without a cable subscription,” said Diana Moraru, StarNet IPTV manager.

Customers will also be able to connect their TV sets directly to the Internet, social networks, and the entertainment center (games, karaoke, weather forecast, currency exchange rates, Youtube), which according to experts can be an alternative to the digitalization of television on the media market.

To receive TV programs on a TV set, one will need special equipment (powercable, remote control, multimedia device and a user’s guide) at a price of USD 53 or MDL 750 without a subscription fee. “It requires only an Internet connection,” said Alexei Munteanu, StarNet marketing director.

In addition, the Cable TV service was launched. Since this April, StarNet offers more than 60 TV channels to the customers who cannot afford purchasing the IPTV equipment or to those who have older TV sets that can not be connected to new technologies.

Alexandru Machedon, StarNet Director, announced about the new service Cable TV already this January, after several television stations were excluded from the offers of cable operators in the country.

The online television project OTT (Over the Top) has been worked on for more than a year and eight months, in partnership with a Ukrainian company. The TV equipment necessary to receive online television (www.magictvbox.org) can be purchased from StarNet commercial centers in Moldova.
