The Chisinau Court of Appeal admitted the action filed by TV8 against the Broadcasting Council (BC) and annulled, by a ruling of October 31, the decision of the BC on the application of the 7,000 lei fine for lack of balance in Natalia Morari’s Politics program, writes tv8.md.

The case was examined by magistrates Anatolie Minciuna, Veronica Negru, and Ecaterina Palanciuc. The court found that, in the October 6 edition of the program in question, “the balance of opinions was ensured throughout the program and the right to expression in the audiovisual program mentioned in the notification was not limited.”

Thus, the judges decided to admit the action filed by TV8 against the BC and to annul the BC decision of October 26, by which the station was fined following a complaint filed by the Center for the Protection of the Rights of Journalists of the Republic of Moldova. The decision can be appealed to the Supreme Court of Justice within one day of the ruling.

Media Azi previously wrote that the TV8 administration will challenge in court the BC decision by which the TV station was sanctioned for the lack of impartiality and balance of opinions in the Natalia Morari’s Politics program. TV8 describes the authority’s decision as “an intimidation of journalists and an attack on freedom of expression.”
