Thus, on Sunday, June 12, Vadim Ungureanu was not allowed to enter the assembly hall of the community center in the town of Cimislia, where he wanted to attend the meeting between the leaders of the “Platforma DA” party and the party’s supporters. The journalist tried to get in without permission, and when he was taken out by force from the building, he called one of the party’s leaders “wild” and “mad.” Later, the incident was covered by Publika.md, which only showed Vadim Ungureanu’s statements, without those of the other party in conflict.
We qualify as inadmissible both physical aggression and prevention of the Today.md employee from participation in public events, and the behavior of the journalist himself. We also consider a violation of professional ethics the presentation of this incident by Publika.md from a single source.
The law on the press allows representatives of mass media, in order to perform their professional activities, to obtain and disseminate information and to make audiovisual recordings, film, and photograph; also, the state guarantees protection of the honor and dignity of journalists, as well as their health, life, and property. At the same time, professional ethical standards in journalism demand that representatives of the media demonstrate decent behavior, without verbal assaults against interlocutors, even when their civil or professional rights are violated.
We again ask the Ministry of Internal Affairs to take adequate measures against such incidents and to inform the public about the measures taken against those who caused them, as well as about the results of the actions taken against the persons that are found guilty.
