Media non-governmental organizations condemn assault against the PRO TV camera crew by a group of intoxicated persons.

According to a video broadcast by the TV channel, the incident took place in the capital city on Monday, 8 April. The PRO TV crew was in the field, intending to document the case of a road accident, when a group of drunk young people, who did not like being filmed, assaulted the PRO TV cameraman. Later, one of them tried to hit the cameraman.

We condemn this aggressive behavior towards media representatives and remind the citizens that journalists have the right to film, make audiovisual recordings and take pictures in public places. At the same time, we emphasize that accosting an individual in an offensive way in a public place or other similar actions that violate moral norms or that disturb public order or the tranquility of an individual are qualified by the Contravention Code (art. 354) as acts of disorderly conduct and are sanctioned by the law.

We urge the law enforcement bodies to investigate the case and to take the necessary measures against the persons who have assaulted the journalists. Note, that according to Article 20(3) of Law on Press, the State guarantees the defense of honor and dignity of a journalist and protects his or her health, life and property.
