Moldovan media NGOs are concerned with the violence practised by the Ukrainian special forces that resulted in injuring journalists who were covering the protests in Kiev city center, and are harshly condemning such actions, which are in contradiction with all international standards.
On Monday afternoon, the Ukrainian public association Telekritika produced a list with the names of about 50 journalists who were assaulted, including representatives of several international media outlets. Telekritika mentions that most of them were injured during the dispersal of protesters on Sunday, December 1st.
We believe these violations of media freedom are inadmisible, especially since journalists are assaulted and beaten while doing their job.
We address the Ukrainian government and presidency with an appeal to investigate the situations where physical force was applied to and reported by journalists and to take all the necessary measures to avoid such events in the future.
We also express full solidarity with the representatives of Ukrainian media, who are protecting their right to do their job freely and without restraint, according to universally accepted democratic standards.
