According to the Barometer of Public Opinion released by the Institute for Public Policy in April 2015, 55 percent of the interviewed have most trust in the local media, 46% - the Russian media, 35% - the EU media and 33% - the Romanian media.
Television remains the main source of information for the people, the survey says. 83% of the interviewed watch TV daily and 87% named television the most important source of information. The Internet ranked second: 44% of population go online daily. The radio comes third: being the media of choice for 39% of the interviewed. 7.1% trust the printed press most and 9% prefer reading books.
When asked "What is the source of information that you trust most?", 50% of the interviewed answered 'television', 20% - 'Internet', and 5% - 'radio'. At the same time, the people learn about the events taking place in the country and abroad from domestic TV channels (73%), from Russian TV and radio channels (40%) and from online media - 21%.
When it comes to the people's trust, the media ranked second (47.5%); the top ranking was given to the church - 81%. The people trust the least political parties (10.5%), the Parliament and the President (11%), the Government (13%) and the judiciary (15%).
The Public Opinion Barometer data were collected between March 28 and April 7, 2015, on a sample of 1,104 individuals from 85 localities in Moldova (except Transnistria).
