Statement of Media NGOs on the Speaker’s Declaration about the Journalists’ Protest on May 3

Media NGOs and independent journalists were taken aback by the statements made by Speaker Andrian Candu in a press briefing at Parliament, on Thursday, 3 May - the World Press Freedom Day. Thus, when asked by a reporter why he had not come to talk to the participants in the Solidarity March, Andrian Candu came up with a tough answer: ‘They do nothing but write projects, receive external funding and make sure to spend that money. And they are accustomed to organizing protests on this day of the year.

Access to Information: Journalists have Named the Least Press-Friendly Institutions. The Presidency Came First

A total of 23 media publishers were polled in a survey organised to identify the institutions that violate the Law on Access to Information most often. The Presidency of the Republic of Moldova and the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection were mentioned the most. The survey was organized by the Independent Journalism Center. Dozens of publishers were asked to name three institutions that either failed to reply within the time period stipulated by the law, or offered a very broad reply.

Доступ к информации: Журналисты указали самые закрытые для прессы учреждения. Первой в списке оказалась Президентура.

В проведенном среди 23 редакций опросе на тему того, какие учреждения чаще всего нарушают Закон о доступе к информации, лидируют Президентура Республики Молдова и Министерство здравоохранения, труда и социальной защиты. Опрос был проведен Центром независимой журналистики среди десятков редакций. Участников попросили назвать по три государственных учреждения, которые не отвечали на запросы информации в предусмотренные законом сроки или отвечали на них уклончиво. Журналисты также указали причины, называемые государственными структурами.

Direcția comunicare și relații publice a Parlamentului Republicii Moldova a făcut public astăzi un comunicat de presă – Demers împotriva dezinformării – în care își exprimă dezacordul cu spotul ”Accesul la informație este garantat prin lege! Nu accepta încălcarea acestui drept”, difuzat de posturile Moldova 1, Jurnal TV, TV8, Canal Regional și Elita TV.

Управление по коммуникации и связям с общественностью Парламента Республики Молдова опубликовало сегодня пресс-релиз – Ходатайство против дезинформации – в котором выразило несогласие с рекламным роликом «Доступ к информации гарантирован законом! Не допускай нарушения этого права». Ролик транслировался следующими каналами: «Moldova 1», «Jurnal TV», «TV8», «Canal Regional» и «Elita TV».

Press Freedom Days: The Authorities Ignored Journalists who Participated in the Solidarity March

On 3 May, dozens of journalists and representatives of civil society participated in the Solidarity March, which kicked off the Press Freedom Days in Moldova. The demonstrators went to the Parliament, the Presidency, the Government and the Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC) to hand them the Memorandum on Press Freedom in the Republic of Moldova for 3 May 2017 – 3 May 2018. The document highlighted problems faced by journalists.
