The first Italian graphic journalism website was launched on Thursday, 26th of March. The project is called Graphic News and it is run by the cooperative company “Pequod” and a group of cartoonists who are mainly settled in the area of Bologna (Emilia-Romagna).

Pietro Scarnera, one of the founders, said that the website intends to produce reportages on social and cultural topics while maintaining each author’s style and perspective. At the moment, the website presents six different news sections and it is developing English versions of the stories in order to reach a broader public.

Among the materials that currently appear on Graphic News, there are reportages about the closure of forensic psychiatric hospitals, an immigrants’ reception project initiated by former Lampedusa refugees, and the life of prostitutes in Italian cities. In addition, links to sources and bibliography related to the news are available at the end of every story.
