Media NGOs call on the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in the context of the statements made by the President of the Parliamentary Committee for National Security, Defense and Public Order, Chiril Motpan, about the wiretaps of a number of experts, journalists and activists from different fields, to confirm or refute the information on the spinning of media representatives.

We call on the General Prosecutor’s Office, which announced that it took note of these statements, to conduct an objective investigation and to act transparently.

At the same time, we urge politicians to operate with verified information.

Note that the Supreme Law stipulates that the respect and protection of the individual shall constitute the foremost duty of the State. The Constitution also states that ‘the citizens of the Republic of Moldova shall benefit of the State protection’ and that ‘the State shall respect and protect the private and family life’. Also, the Republic of Moldova committed under this document to ensure the privacy of telephone conversations and other legal means of communication.

Note that Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights stipulates that everyone has the right to respect for his private and family life, his home and his correspondence.
