Public Call of Moldova 1 regarding September 17th protests

The administration of the public TV channel has launched a call expressing its disagreement with the attempts of Action and Solidarity Party (Partidul Acțiune și Solidaritate, PAS) and Platform for Dignity and Truth Party (Partidul Platforma Demnitate și Adevăr, PPDA) to “discredit and defame the image of the national television through aggressive actions of pressure and interference with the editorial policy".

The management of Moldova 1 TV station has rejected the request of Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) and Dignity and Truth Platform Party (PPDA) to grant one hour of airtime per week to “the real opposition.” Unhappy with the response from the national television, the leaders of PAS and PPDA announced new protests for October 1.
 

The IJC Trained a New Group of Teachers in Media Education

The Independent Journalism Center (IJC) continues training activities for the piloting of the optional course of Media Education. This time, 18 primary school teachers were initiated in the field of media education as part of a complex training program organized by the IJC. The training took place in Chisinau on September 22-24, and it was conducted on the basis of the Media Education curriculum developed under the aegis of the IJC and approved by the Ministry of Education and with the aid of the auxiliary material designed for the piloting of this optional course.

The Digital Switchover Deadline ... Postponed Again?!

The Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure (MEI) proposes to postpone the deadline for transition to digital terrestrial television in Moldova from December 31, 2017 to March 1, 2020. A draft law in this sense, prepared by the MEI, is at the stage of public consultations. The declared reasons for the postponement are the fact that regional broadcasters lack the necessary funds and the fact that the Government has not yet identified money in the budget to secure vulnerable families with set-top boxes.

În virtutea profesiei pe care o au, jurnaliștii și reporterii se confruntă uneori cu situații de risc pentru ei, atunci când merg în zone de conflict, la proteste sau când investighează cazuri de corupție. Aceștia pot fi amenințați, insultați, agresați fizic, echipamentul le poate fi deteriorat, iar uneori și viața le poate fi pusă în pericol. Ce comportament trebuie să aibă și ce ar trebuie să știe jurnalistul atunci când merge pe teren ca să reflecte astfel de subiecte?

Young Journalists, Awarded for the Best Investigations

The Independent Journalism Center (IJC) has given awards today, September 27, to several young journalists for their investigations focused on Russian propaganda. The event was held in Chisinau as part of the “Propaganda in Public Discourse. How Do We Avoid It?” project implemented by the Independent Journalism Center between January and September 2017 with the financial support of the Baltic to Black Sea Alliance (BBSA).

Demisi​a​​​​ in corpore ​a membrilor Consiliului Coordonator al Audiovizualului (CCA) și eliberarea definitivă a șoferului microbuzului, reținut după protestele din 17 septembrie, sunt două revindecări noi, votate în cadrul unei noi acțiuni de protest, organizate de către de partidele extraparlamentare Platforma Demnitate și Adevăr și Partidul Acțiune și Solidaritate, duminică, 1 octombrie. De asemenea, manifestanții au cerut din nou demisia directoarei postului public de televiziune, potrivit IPN.

They may be threatened, insulted, attacked, their equipment may be damaged, and sometimes their very life may be endangered. How should journalists behave and what should they know when they go to the scene to cover these subjects?

В силу своей профессии, журналисты и репортеры иногда оказываются в рискованных  ситуациях, направляясь в зоны конфликтов, на протесты или расследуя случаи коррупции. Им могут угрожать, их могут оскорбить, на них могут напасть, их оборудование может быть повреждено, а иногда сама их жизнь может оказаться под угрозой. Как нужно себя вести и что следовало бы знать журналисту, когда он выезжает на место событий для освещения подобных тем?
