The Centre for Independent Journalism continues its series of media education lessons. On November 27, CIJ visited the students from the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics, Moldova State University. The media expert, Viorica Zaharia challenged students to discussions about media sources they usually read and how they chose the most reliable one. The students admitted that some “shocking” news misled them many times, because they did not find the right content in the text.

Media Education Classes Reached the Students from Cahul District

Oleg Danilceac, the deputy chancellor of Cahul State University, together with a young group of people who participated in a media lesson organized by the Centre for Independent Journalism, discussed on November 4 about the manipulation phenomenon by means of media and its dangerous consequences. Within this activity, students from the Medical College of Cahul and pupils from “Al. Ioan Cuza” Gymnasium from Rosu village, Cahul district learnt some concepts related to the media, the press role and information function it exercises.

Students from TCUM Understood Why They Must Be Vigilant with the Information from the Press

On November 12 the media lessons organized by the Centre for Independent Journalism reached the Trade Co-operative University from Moldova (TCUM). In a meeting attended by the  media expert Ion Terguta the students had the opportunity to learn more about the administration of a media business and why it is important to know who the real media institutions owners are.

Students from Slavonic University Are Aware of the Manipulation by Means of Press

Another group of young people has been involved in discussions organized by the Centre for Independent Journalism. This time, CIJ experts met on Thursday, November 19 with the students from Slavonic University from Chisinau. Petra Raschkewitz, a Deutsche Welle representative started the lesson with some welcoming remarks. She talked about the importance of media education, especially for the Republic of Moldova, because this field has not been addressed, yet.

Pupils Learnt That News Should Be Based on Concrete Facts, not on Imagination

The media education classes, organized by CIJ for education institutions across the country, continued on Wednesday, November 25 at ”Academician C. Sibirschii” high school from Chisinau and the Gymnasium from  Misovca village, Ialoveni district.
This time, the person who helped them to better understand the role and functions of the press was Elena Cobylyan, lecturer in Journalism at Slavonic University.

Media NGOs: We are asking for parliamentary investigation of the attempt to intimidate the editorial board of Ziarul de Garda

Non-governmental organizations working in the field of mass media are expressing their worry about the intimidation notified by the editorial board of the investigative weekly newspaper Ziarul de Garda in the declaration of December 16, 2015. We are drawing the attention of the leadership and employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs that such interference is illegal and antidemocratic, and obstruction of mass media activities by using one’s official position is penalized by the Criminal Code of Moldova.

Напоминаем руководству и сотрудникам Министерства внутренних дел, что подобное вмешательство незаконно и антидемократично, а препятствование деятельности СМИ путем использования служебного положения наказуемо согласно Уголовному кодексу Республики Молдова.
