Oleg Danilceac, the deputy chancellor of Cahul State University, together with a young group of people who participated in a media lesson organized by the Centre for Independent Journalism, discussed on November 4 about the manipulation phenomenon by means of media and its dangerous consequences. Within this activity, students from the Medical College of Cahul and pupils from “Al. Ioan Cuza” Gymnasium from Rosu village, Cahul district learnt some concepts related to the media, the press role and information function it exercises. The news was given a specific attention, because it serves as a very favorable means for manipulation. Therefore, the students gained full information about what the news is, its structure, why it is so important for the journalist to get information from various sources and the last but not the least, why he/she should not provide own opinion regarding the facts he/she writes about in the news. At the same time, the young people learnt the way the manipulation takes place. To understand this better, they addressed an event from three perspectives: negative, positive and neutral. This way, the students saw that the same fact can be rendered both in an objective and subjective way. In this context, the students watched the video spot realized by CIJ “Do you know what means of information you consume”?, and the conclusion they made was that not all news were reliable.
The participants in this activity mentioned that this type of media lessons helped them learn more about information the press provides. Emil Gheorghe, pupil within the Gymnasium from Rosu village says:” These lessons are very useful for all the young people, because these teaches them how to read and appropriately analyze all the news”. Ecaterina Dolinschi, student at the Medical College of Cahul, says:” I think this lesson is productive for me, because I learnt that a news must provide all the involved parties, with pro and con arguments. I think I will manage to distinguish from now on the reliable news from those false, because I realized today that not all the information is handed to us “on a plate” deserves to be read”.
