On July 19 the first hackathon of citizen journalism in Moldova, Puterea a Cincea (the Fifth Estate) ended. It was organized by the Independent Journalism Center and Internews.

Last week, Yevgeniy Shevchuk, the leader of the self-proclaimed Transnistrian Republic, signed a decree that makes it mandatory for the state media in the region to cover the events he attends. The media must notify the public about such events at least seven days in advance and broadcast on radio and TV, as well as publish in print and electronic media materials covering such events, daily. Moreover, the decree provides that a map showing the location of all media outlets and the movements of reporters covering the events be developed and approved.
Sergey Ilchenko, an activist and journalist residing in Transnistria, was released from prison on Saturday, July 18, 2015, informs Dniester.ru. He was arrested four months ago (March 18, 2015) in his apartment in the town of Pervomaisk, and charged with extremism by the law enforcement bodies of the self-proclaimed Transnistrian Republic.
Sergey Ilchenko is widely known as a critic of the current regime in Tiraspol and a partisan of the Ukrainian authorities.
