
The Independent Journalism Center has a very busy agenda in November. The team of the Training and Communication Department continues its IJC Caravan initiative by visiting universities where it will talk to journalism students. Young journalists will be encouraged to participate in training programs, press clubs, workshops, seminars and other events organized by the IJC, where they will be able to take master classes from experienced journalists, exchange contacts and meet their colleagues.
The IJC is going to organize an event for lecturers from different journalism departments, during which they will be able to discuss with media experts a balanced approach to gender equality in media.
Also in November, five young journalists from Transnistrian region will spend a week working together with their colleagues from Chisinau, within an internship program. Such internships for Transnistrian journalists are organized in order to help them learn about activities of their colleagues from different media organizations from Chisinau: print, radio and TV. The internship program goal is to enhance the cooperation relations between regional media and journalists from Chisinau.
The IJC continues monitoring media institutions from Gagauz-Yeri autonomous region and from Transnistrian region for discrimination issues.
Also in the same month, the IJC is receiving applications for the Top 10 journalists of the year contest. Winners of this year will be announced at Annual Press Club Gala on December 19, a traditional event organized by the IJC.
Media Today and Research Department is presenting its second report Media Freedom Watch Index on November 12. The Index reflects developments in media freedom within July-September and is part of a range of surveys that are conducted every three months by the IJC; the survey involves support from ten experts from Moldova and is carried out under the project ENP East Media Freedom Watch.
In November, the team of the Advocacy and Production Department (DAP) is going to finalize its work on a documentary and video clip on paralegals, a production ordered by Soros-Moldova Foundation. DAP is going to produce a motivational video clip for the Independent Press Association’s campaign titled Manipulation Makes You Fool and is going to start producing fillers on successful women for the project Changing the perception of women in Moldovan society through media implemented by the IJC.
Media Policies and Law Department is launching a new edition of the legislative bulletin for September-October with media legislative news and IJC declarations. We should mention as well that the IJC provides free legal assistance to journalists and media institutions in issues related to freedom of expression, access to information and other aspects of media legislation.
CSAJ is beginning a course on TV Journalism in November, preceded by some practical lectures on how to use video cameras and video editing software. Students will spend three weeks learning from journalists and TV producers all processes and elements of television – from a working session to „broadcasting”, specifically: selection, writing, cutting, editing and arranging subjects in a TV news program.
Also, the Discussion Club will continue its regular sessions on Tuesdays. Representatives of international organizations and NGOs, politicians, media managers, experts with different backgrounds will hold informal discussions with students on most relevant topics.
