The Media Azi portal posted in the “Publications” section the new issue of the biannual “Mass Media in Moldova” magazine, which includes articles and commentaries on the main events in mass media that occurred in the second half of 2015.

In the sections titled “Audiovisual”, “Letter of the law”, “Ethics and professionalism”, “Public relations”, “Regional press”, “Investigative journalism”, “Cultural journalism”, you can read the commentaries of journalists and media experts Dorin Scobioala, Olivia Pirtac, Vitalie Calugareanu, Elena Moldoveanu, Victor Cobasneanu, Alina Radu and Irina Nechit.

A thorough analysis of legal aspects concerning the use of drones by journalists has been made by lawyer Andrei Bivol. The author, who participated as an expert in the media innovations workshop “Drone Journalism” in November 2015, organized by the IJC together with Internews, writes about the use of drones in Moldova, flight operation and security rules, ethical standards in drone journalism, etc.
Media researcher Victor Gotisan presented in the “Book review” section Liliana Nicolae’s book “Places. People. Stories.”

Annexes include the conclusions and recommendations presented by the authors of the “Measuring perceptions of sociopolitical news by the media audience in the Republic of Moldova” study launched by the IJC in December 2015. Based on two researches (national opinion poll and focus groups), produced by the Chisinau Institute of Marketing and Polls IMAS-INC, experts Tamara Caraus (Moldova) and Ivan Godarsky (Slovakia) analyzed what media sources are preferred by Moldovan citizens, the perception of the degree of information and manipulation and the preferences of domestic media versus foreign media.

Annexes also include the conclusions and recommendations of the second monitoring report “Evaluation of hate speech in online media”, produced by the IJC within the “Press can’t hate” campaign. In the period of October 1-31, 2015, monitoring covered 15 Moldovan portals (including some from the Gagauz autonomy and the Transnistrian region), which published 213 relevant journalistic materials. The authors of the monitoring report proposed concrete recommendations that might lessen the amount of hate speech.

The cover of the “Mass Media in Moldova” magazine is illustrated by pictures from the 21st Annual Gala of the Press Club, organized on December 17, 2015 by the Independent Journalism Center and the Press Freedom Committee.
The magazine appears in electronic form in Romanian, English and Russian. (Link)
