Top 2016 Journalists Were Nominated

The Press Club of Chișinău - the Independent Journalism Centre (IJC) and the Press Freedom Committee (PFC) - have awarded the journalists of the year 2016 during the annual gala of the Press Club, XXII Edition, held on 16th of December in Chișinău.
 
The following were nominated as the journalists of the year 2016:

  1. Eugenia Pogor, TV Journalism category, TV Project “Pur și simplu” (“Just simplu”), Radio Free Europe.
  2. Valentina Ursu, Radio Journalism category, Radio Free Europe.
  3. Valeria Vițu, Radio Journalism category, correspondent of Radio France International (RFI).
  4. Ana Sîrbu, Online Journalism category, Agora website.
  5. Galina Vasilieva, Online Journalism category, NewsMaker website.
  6. Iurie Sănduță, Investigative Journalism category, Rise Moldova.
  7. Anticorupție.md website, a project of the Centre for Journalistic Investigations, Investigative Journalism category.
  8. Igor Rotari, Photojournalism category, Unimedia website.
  9. Sergiu Pascari, Written press category, “SP” newspaper (Bălți).   

Special awards:

  • Hope of the year - Iurie Botnarenco, correspondent of Adevărul newspaper (Romania).
  • The best blog prize - Gheorghe Erizanu, erizanu.cartier.md.
  • The prize for media innovations - Agora website.  
  • The best media campaign - Valentina Basiul “Prin ochii presei. Moldova. Un sfert de secol” (“Through the press eyes. Moldova. A quarter of a century”).
  • The Prize of Excellence - Contrafort magazine.

Two additional prizes have also been awarded at the gala:

  • The National Prize for Professional Journalistic Ethic and Deontology awarded by the Press Council to anticoruptie.md website, a project of the Centre for Journalistic Investigations.
  • The Prize for the best media project developed by the graduates of the School of Advanced Journalism awarded to Polina Cupcea, the project “Oameni si Kilometri” (“People and Kilometres”).

The selection procedure:

In October 2016, the Independent Journalism Centre launched a call for applications for a contest of original materials produced and published during the period January-November 2016. The members of IJC Administration Board added supplementary nominations to the list of candidates proposed to be awarded. The dossiers submitted for the contest were assessed by the members of the jury panels set up for different categories of awards and the members of IJC Administration Board, based on 5 criteria: professionalism, compliance with the deontological rules, presence in the media area and impact on the public opinion, the level of the taken risk and the devotion to the profession.
