Articles are signed by journalists, academics, media experts and they cover the most topical media issues faced by the country.
The need to adopt a new Broadcasting Code is invoked by the media expert Ion Bunduchi. The author points out that, during the period 2009-2016, the current Broadcasting Code has undergone 94 amendments that concerned 35 out of the 68 articles, what confirms that the document is out-of-date. At the same time, the Parliament procrastinates the second reading of new code. In conclusion, Ion Bunduchi states the new Broadcasting Code is a kind of test of the Government’s sincerity.
The lawyer Olivia Pîrţac signs an article about the Law on Access to Information adopted 16 years ago: “Demands and Aspirations in terms of Access to Information”.
The research dimension of the domestic journalism is tackled by Constantin Marin, journalist and University Professor. The phenomenon of trolling and its spread in the Republic of Moldova and in the world is subject to a review by the media researcher Victor Gotișan.
The media expert Aneta Gonţa makes an analysis of the mass-media behaviour in the election campaign of 2016 in her article entitled “A “Dog Eat Dog” War with a Media Consumer Caught in the Middle”. After revealing the main deviations from the ethical standards accepted by the journalists, the author concludes: the media, overall, took an unsatisfactory score for the coverage of the presidential campaign.
Other issues raised by the journal - the problems faced by the local media that have to hold up relying on foreign projects and funds (author - Lucia Bacalu-Jardan); models for the development of the independent, financially sustainable media (author - Mihai Bologan); the woman’s image promoted by the domestic websites for women (author - Vlada Ciobanu); journalism in the age of modern technologies (author - Silvia Grossu, Associate Professor).
The section "Experiences" includes an exclusive interview with Vitalie Eșanu, co-founder of privesc.eu project. At the section "Review", Cristina Leva-Mogâldea makes a presentation of the book „Mareea neagră: limba română sub asediu” (“Oil spill: the Romanian language under siege”) by Dumitru Borțun.
“The Mass-Media in Moldova” journal is a project of the IJC. Its December 2016 issue was supported by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, by the means of the Swedish Embassy in Chisinau.
