The host of this edition of the Media Azi show, Nadine Gogu, Executive Director of the Independent Journalism Center, and her guest, researcher Aneta Gonta, wondered: How does it happen that although we realize we can be manipulated, we still become victims of media manipulation? What generates the viewers’ credulity, their tendency to believe whatever they see on TV screens?

In search of the answer, the protagonists of the show analyze some subtle manipulation techniques used by journalists, especially by news presenters or hosts of TV shows, when they want to promote certain messages.

From the show you can find out how researcher Aneta Gonta explains the exaggerated credulity of Moldovan viewers to the news they see on television and why the media consumers’ critical mind does not react adequately to the infinite flow of news coming over them.

Also, see how a journalist’s non-verbal language can influence our thinking and what subconscious reactions happen to the viewer when the host of a show resorts to certain mimics, gestures, etc. Or how our perception can be distorted by interrogative headlines that journalists use when they do not have enough evidence to support their materials.

Last but not least, in the same context of subtle manipulation through the media, find out why politicians are so interested in owning as many TV channels as possible, trying by all the means at their disposal to subordinate and influence them.
