We condemn information manipulation by Publika TV, which was subsequently multiplied by Canal 2, Canal 3 and Prime televisions, when the declaration made by Petru Macovei about the reasons for protesters’ discontent with the presence of Publika TV crew was taken out of context and interpreted subjectively, while the first part of his statement, where he clearly condemned any violence, physical or verbal, was ignored.
We also consider unacceptable the use of ambiguous terms in news, resulting in insinuations that media NGOs allegedly organized the protest on Sunday, and their identification with the term “political groups” in a context that could be interpreted as a discrediting and slandering campaign, including by means of allegations that AIP Director had been “paid by foreign donors”. We emphasize that this practice is unacceptable and contrary to the ethical and professional standards of journalism. At the same time, we are surprised by the selective reaction of authorities in this case, as well as by the lack of reaction in other cases.
We demand the Press Council to express its position.
