“Media Azi” Show, 57th Edition: Journalists’ Behavior during Protests

By virtue of their profession, journalists and reporters sometimes find themselves in risky situations when they go to conflict zones, to protests, or investigate cases of corruption. They may be threatened, insulted, attacked, their equipment may be damaged, and sometimes their very life may be endangered. How should journalists behave and what should they know when they go to the scene to cover these subjects?
This issue was discussed in the 57th edition of the “Media Azi” show, moderated by Nadine Gogu, Executive Director of the Independent Journalism Center. Her guests were Alina Radu, Director of the Ziarul de Garda newspaper, and Zinaida Gheata, lawyer of the Independent Journalism Center.
Participants spoke of what they think about the behavior of journalists when they report on protests, about the boundary between a journalist who reports and one who directly engages into action, and in what cases the journalistic community and media outlets should solidarize in order not to admit violation of journalists’ rights.
