The Independent Journalism Center is launching the online workshop “Identifying Fake Photos and Visual Manipulation,” in which expert Olga Iurcova, a co-founder of the project www.StopFake.org, offers to journalists a number of tools that allow identifying fake images and thus avoiding visual manipulation.
For user convenience, the online workshop is divided into 6 parts, in which the trainer explains the algorithm for verifying photos through a number of programs that allow finding the primary source of images and analyzing how much the image was processed, and offers a catalog of tools for online verification of photos. Also, Olga Iurcova explains how the authenticity of photos can be proved with the help of Google localization tools (Maps, Earth, or Streetview).
At the end of the workshop, users can try out their skills and knowledge of identifying fake photos by taking a practical test at the link inserted in the description to the video.
The online workshop has been organized by the Independent Journalism Center as a partner of Internews in the project “Media Enabling Democracy, Inclusion and Accountability in Moldova” (MEDIA-M), funded by the USAID. The MEDIA-M project aims to promote the development of independent and professional media in Moldova, offering to citizens access to a variety of perspectives and contributing to greater resistance of the media to political and financial pressures.
