The New York Times has a new executive editor

Jill Abramson, executive editor of the American The New York Times newspaper, left this position, which she had held since 2011. The reasons of her dismissal were not officially announced, says bbc.com.

60-year-old Abramson was the first woman to lead The New York Times. “I've loved my run at The Times. I got to work with the best journalists in the world doing so much stand-up journalism,” she said in a statement.

The vacancy has been filled by managing editor Dean Baquet, winner of the Pulitzer Prize. He became the first African American to run The New York Times in the newspaper’s 162 years on the media market.

Although the newspaper’s revenue from advertising (both print and electronic versions) grew for the first time in several years, the company shares fell more than 4.5%.

International media inform that on Wednesday, 14 May, the editor-in-chief of the French Le Monde Natalie Nougayrede also quit her position. She left 15 months after her appointment, following a long conflict with journalists in the newsroom.
