On Friday, 18 October, the Parliament voted in the first reading the draft law on ceasing the online meetings of the Government. Thus, members of the Cabinet might decide themselves on the procedure of meetings.
Currently, only the Prime Minister can decide on holding the Government meetings in an open or closed manner. Valeriu Strelet, a Member of Parliament representing the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova, said that after the adoption of this law, the entire Cabinet will receive such a right. “The decision to broadcast Government meetings or not will be at the discretion of the entire Government, and not only of the Prime Minister, as it is now,” mentioned the MP.
Previously, media NGOs brought to the attention of the Government the legal obligation to ensure real transparency of decision making. According to the declaration of NGOs, cessation of broadcasting of the Government meetings raises certain concerns regarding transparency in decision making.
