Beginning next Monday, the new director of the television channel Publika will be Iulian Bercu, who will be replacing Dumitru Tira, according to Deschide.md.
38-year-old Iulian Bercu is the founder of the PR agency “Profile” and co-founder of the weekly business publication Business Expert, which in 2009 merged with the economic magazine Eco, thus contributing to the establishment of a group of economic media within Jurnal Media Trust. Also, Bercu was reporter with PRO TV Chisinau and Basa Press.
Publika TV was launched in Moldova on 7 April 2010, exactly one year after the protests that took place in Chisinau, and it is the only news channel in Moldova. Dumitru Tira had been manager since the establishment of the company Stiri Media Grup, which includes Publika TV, Publika FM, and Publika.md. On 20 May 2011, the representatives of Bluelink Communicazione sold the majority stake of Publika TV to Dumitru Tira.
According to the articles published by Moldovan media, Publika TV was bought in 2011 by Vladimir Plahotniuc, a Member of Parliament representing the Democratic Party, from Elan Schwartzenberg, the owner of Realitatea Media in Romania. Dumitru Tira refuted such claims and categorized them as an attempt at disinformation and damage to the credibility of television.
