According to Infotag.md, the socio-political republican weekly newspaper Nezavisimaia Moldova (editor’s note – Independent Moldova), which ceased its activity in June, reappeared on Friday with a circulation of 17,000 copies.
After the publication ceased its operation, the newspaper’s former editor-in-chief Iurie Tiscenco was replaced by a former member of the Broadcasting Coordinating Council (BCC) Corneliu Mihalache. The latter said that the newspaper will later appear in the online version, too.
“For a while, we will be appearing on Fridays with 16 pages. For lack of financing, we chose not to edit televised programs. At the moment, our main task is to solve the problem of recovery of editing expenses and to pay the dues to our printing partners, who did us a favor despite our debts to them amounting to several thousand lei,” added the new editor.
He openly expressed his support of the Party of Communists on several occasions. At the end of August, Unimedia.md wrote that according to Mihalache, the newspaper “will have an expressive character of opposition to the current authorities.”
Former editor-in-chief Iurie Tiscenco said that the main reason for the newspaper to have closed were serious financial difficulties and the authorities’ pressure on sponsors.
