At a meeting last week, the Broadcasting Coordinating Council (BCC) has issued a public warning to the Accent TV television outlet for failure to observe the balance and social and political pluralism. This measure was taken following the examination of the report on the monitoring of newscasts for observance of the principles of equidistance and objectivity.

“Violation of balance and equidistance in this outlet’s informative programs is evident. (…) 40%, practically half of airtime, are given to a single political party, the PCRM [Party of Communists of the Republic of Moldova], which is praised during half of this time,” a BCC member, Dinu Ciocanu, explained. He added that a change in the editorial policy of Accent TV is necessary.

“I’d like to point out that the NIT television outlet had the exact same problems,” added BCC chairman Marian Pocaznoi.

In his turn, the representative of Accent TV claimed that a significant portion of airtime covers the governing coalition and the Government’s actions, while items concerning the PCRM took 42%.
