GRT obtained a broadcasting license for the following seven years

On Thursday, 16 July, following a contest, the Broadcasting Coordinating Council (BCC) issued a broadcasting license to the public company “Gagauziya Radio Televizionu” (GRT) for the TV-Gagauzia channel. The frequencies held by this broadcaster became available and put forward for contest after the deadline for extension of the broadcasting license expired on 7 May 2015 and the company’s management did not submit the necessary documents.

Members of the BCC asked Stepan Piron, the incumbent president of GRT, why the company failed to use its right to extend the license in due time, and he said there were some management issues that have already been solved.

According to BCC member Cristina Mitu, GRT easily obtained its license due to the absence of other contestants.

At the same meeting, the BCC issued broadcasting licenses to Drochia FM radio and Sor TV television.

The 98.9 MHz – Cahul frequency remained in the contest since none of the three applicants (“Noroc Media” S.R.L., A.O. “Media – Grup MERIDIAN” and A.O. “Info Mingir”) managed to obtain the necessary number of votes.

It should be mentioned that the BCC issues broadcasting licenses for a period of seven years.
