Transnistrian Media Ordered to Cover the Events Attended by Yevgeniy Shevchuk

Last week, Yevgeniy Shevchuk, the leader of the self-proclaimed Transnistrian Republic, signed a decree that makes it mandatory for the state media in the region to cover the events he attends. The media must notify the public about such events at least seven days in advance and broadcast on radio and TV, as well as publish in print and electronic media materials covering such events, daily. Moreover, the decree provides that a map showing the location of all media outlets and the movements of reporters covering the events be developed and approved.

Also, the decree provides that the press services of the central public authorities will be in charge of collecting the media outlets' requests regarding the covering of the events attended by Yevgeny Shevchuk. The journalists covering such events will have special permits and will be provided relevant information in a timely manner.

In addition, the decree specifies the timeframe for publishing such materials. State radio and TV stations must broadcast relevant news during the most contiguous news reports, and rebroadcast them during the subsequent ones. The printed press must publish relevant materials in the very first issue published after the event; online media must publish the news within a hour after the start of the event. Live video and audio broadcasts must be published on the websites of the media outlets within 24 hours after the event. Other media outlets will be allowed to publish the photographs and videos produced by the state media only after prior coordination with certain public agencies.

The decree signed by Yevgeny Shevchuk took effect on Thursday, July 16, 2015.
