The National Assembly of UTA Gagauz-Yeri chose the members of a new Supervisory Board (SBO) of the regional public Company "Gagauziya Radio Televizionu" on Monday, 9 August. 28 candidates participated in the competition, out of which 9 were chosen. The new BO will work four years till 9 August 2020.

The new Supervisory Board consists of Maria Acbas, Stepan Chireacov and Ludmida Fedotova who got 19 votes from the Gagauz MPs; Marina Velicoglo and Valerii Dimitroglo (20 votes); Ivan Screlea (21 votes); Anatolii Mavrodi (22 votes); Inna Culis and Lilia Cipciu (23 votes).

Contacted by Media-Azi, the media expert Petru Macovei expressed his hope that the new BO will work for the development of the regional public broadcaster, in comparison with its former members, who "were fully controlled by certain political forces from the National Assembly and from the Executive Committee from Comrat and adopted decisions that had nothing in common with the mission of a public broadcaster".

"I know some of the members of the new SB and I think that they will handle this function. It remains to be seen how they will manifest themselves. Anyway, I would suggest the members of SB to detach themselves from the politics of the region and to be guided by the general public interest, but not that of a part of it who are the MPs from the National Assembly, the governor or the member of the Executive Committee. They are also the public, but the mission of SB is to think of the large public from the autonomy, the common people's interest who have the right to receive objective  and balanced information from a company which they finance from taxes", mentioned Petru Macovei.

According to the Law on television and radio from the Gagauz autonomy, the Supervisory Board of GRT is formed from representatives of the civil society from the region, specialized in the social, political, economic, legal, financial, scientific, cultural, educational, journalism, management, international relationships, business, mass media fields etc.
