Public Warnings to Broadcasters that Failed to Submit Statements about the Coverage of the Election Campaign to the Broadcasting Coordinating Council

The Broadcasting Coordinating Council (BCC) publicly warned, during its meeting of 16th of September, four media institutions that have not submitted statements about the coverage of the campaign for the presidential election of 30th of October 2016. The statements of other 13 institutions were considered as incomplete and shall be adjusted to the requirements of the BCC.
 
The statements on coverage of the 30th of October election campaign had to be submitted to the BCC before Tuesday, 13th of September. However, four out of the 68 TV channels and 56 radio stations have not complied with the request of the BCC. These are “TV Călărași”, “Moldavian Business Channel”, “TV Rain” and “Radio 7/ Радио 7”. According to the decision of BCC members, these broadcasters were given an additional three-day period to submit their statements.

At the same time, the statements of 6 TV channels and 7 radio stations were not accepted by the BCC. Consequently, “CTC Moldova”, “CTC Mega”, “Super TV”, “Gurinel TV”, “Moldova 2”, “10TV”, “Radio Moldova Tineret”, “Radio Poli Disc-Новое Радио”, “Retro FM”, “Bas FM”, “Cool Radio”, “Maestro FM”, “Radio Moldova” are compelled to reformulate their statements about the coverage of the election campaign, in accordance with the requirements and the recommendations of the institution in charge of self-regulation of broadcasting activities.

According to CEC regulations (point 10), all broadcasters that will cover the election campaign were compelled to submit their statements to the BCC before the 13th of September 2016. The statements will be published on the BCC website. According to the Electoral Code, the control over the compliance with this obligation shall be done ex-officio by the BCC, following the provisions of the Broadcasting Code of the Republic of Moldova.
