The Broadcasting Coordinating Council (BCC) approved the cession of two of the four televisions formerly belonging to the leader of the Democratic Party, Vlad Plahotniuc, to Telestar Media company, following the entry into force of amendments to the Broadcasting Code, according to which a media owner cannot hold more than two licenses in one administrative-territorial unit.

Participants of the 42nd edition of the “Media Azi” show – journalist Nicolae Negru as the host and his guest, doctor of political sciences Aurelia Peru-Balan – discuss to what extent the BCC decision may reduce concentration in the media, given that Canal 2 and Canal 3, the two channels the chairman of the Democratic Party gave up, became property of a company headed by his image adviser, journalist Oleg Cristal.

Another topic of the 42nd edition refers to the recent resignations at the BCC. Learn why the guest of the show believes that the resignation of the BCC chairman and deputy chairman occurred in “Molière style.” Also, find out what participants of the show think about how the BCC performs its functions, specifically, the duty of ensuring political and social balance in the media or preventing monopolies and concentration of ownership in broadcasting.

Also, see what changes at the BCC would be welcome in order to make it politically independent and have it serve the public interest only. And, last but not least, find out what Aurelia Peru-Balan, who is currently a candidate to one of three vacant seats in the BCC, says in connection with her participation in this contest.
