According to the Competition Regulation the nominated media agencies are to be evaluated by the public via the MediaForum.md online platform till 15 November, 2017. Thus, the platform’s visitors can give a number of points to their favorite candidates, but not more than 10 points per week from one computer. Afterwards, the candidates’ professional conduct will be assessed by a group of experts and by Press Council members based on the Moldovan Journalist Code of Ethics, and at the final stage of the competition the points scored will be validated based on criteria set by the Competition Regulation. The final decision will be made by the Press Council in December, 2017. As managing institution, the Press Council can decide not to award any of the nominees should it consider that none of the media deserves the Award this year.
The Press Council of Moldova instituted the National Journalist Ethics Award in 2015 to promote quality journalism and good journalism practices. In previous years the Award went to Chisinau editorial office of Radio Europa Libera station (2015) and to the portal www.anticoruptie.md (2016).
