Euro TV, a television broadcaster owned by Ilan Sor, Orhei mayor and ‘Sor’ Party leader, will be henceforth known as ‘Central Television’. The members of the Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC) voted such a decision by the majority vote at the meeting held on Tuesday, 11 September.

Against the decision allowing the change of the television broadcaster’s name voted only a BCC member – Olga Gututui. She justified her position by the fact that the TV broadcaster’s manager is the representative of a political party. In this context, Olga Gututui asked Dumitru Chitoroaga about the compatibility of the two activities.

According to Chitoroaga, the new name of the TV station would be chosen following an opinion poll. At the same time, he noted that TV station’s general concept and broadcast grid will remain the same for the time being.

According to the press, the takeover of Euro TV and Alt TV by Orhei mayor was brokered by the spouses Rita Tvik and Vladimir Novasadiuc (both are mentioned in the report developed by Kroll – the company hired by the Moldovan authorities to investigate the bank frauds. Media-azi.md addressed the topic recently in the article ‘Strengthening the Media in Orhei or ‘Bribing’ Journalists? Representatives of the TV Stations Affiliated to Sor, are Hiring at Euro TV and Orhei TV’.
