The Press Council, in partnership with the experts of the Freedom House international organisation, developed addenda to the Code of Ethics for Moldovan journalists. The addenda are submitted to Moldovan journalistic community for the consultations.

The need for new addenda is determined by the progress of information technologies which have a direct and significant impact on the media activity, including online media, as well as by some harmful phenomena affecting media consumers, such as fake news, misinformation and manipulation, etc.
Inter alia, addenda relate to situations that should be avoided by journalists, such as the conflict of interest, and include provisions on addressing certain journalistic topics featuring protagonists vulnerable to discrimination.
In addition, among the proposals to supplement the Journalist Code of Ethics, there are rules of covering the sociological surveys’ results, including during the election periods; an appeal to the online and traditional media that have websites, to publish contact data, information about founders and funding sources. The addenda include a new chapter on the relationship between journalists and their employers.
Proposals to improve the Code are expected at the address of the Press Council: secretariat@consiliuldepresa.md, until 10 April 2019.
During 15–24 April 2019, proposals will be debated during a round of public consultations with journalists and civil society, and the improved Code of Ethics will be presented on 3 May 2019.
