On Monday, 10 July, a group of journalists organised a flash mob during a press conference carried out by the veterans of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) and of the war on Nistru River. In protest against the aggressive behaviour towards journalists during the events of 7-9 June this year at Chisinau of the veteran Mihai Balan and his colleagues, they went out the room and left on the table of organisers pens and sheets of paper that said ‘PROTEST’.

In a video material published by the Independent Journalism Center, the flash mob participants stated that they choose this from of protest to show their disapproval regarding the aggressive behaviour of the veteran Mihai Balan. He physically and verbally assaulted the journalists, both behind the Parliament and in front of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, thus making impossible to them to perform their work. Mihai Balan did not attend the press conference.

Note that the topic of the conference was about the ‘attempt of Igor Dodon to federalise the country, according to Plan Kozak II’. This was the reason the leaders of the Democratic Party and the supporters of this political formation protested on 7-9 June.
It should be mentioned that on 8 June, several journalist complained that they were assaulted by the participants in the protests, including by combatants.
Journalists say that through this gesture they wanted to identify themselves with all the fellow journalists who did not feel safe during these days of protests. Anatolie Bizgu, one of the combatants, accused the journalists of being paid to organise such a flash mob.

Note that media NGOs condemned the assaults, intimidations and violent actions against journalists during the events of 7-9 June 2019 provoked by the participants in the protests.
