According to Gagauzinfo.md, on 30 July People’s Assembly of Gagauzia (PAG) dismissed three of nine members of the Supervisory Board (SB) of Comrat Public TV and Radio Company (GRT). Thus, the Board became literally inoperative, this being also confirmed by the MPs’ majority vote. Bashkan Irina Vlah welcomed the MPs’ decision and urged them to organise a new contest to select SB members on professional, not political criteria.
During the plenary session of 30 July, the Chairman of the PAG’s Legal Committee Piotr Ceavdari said that Committee had received reports from various public organisations on the violations admitted in the Board.
Thus, Igor Ianak, Andrei Mihailov and Ivan Terzi were reportedly representatives of some social-political and political organisations, which is prohibited by the broadcasting law in the region. Other two SB members – Andrei Mihailov and Ludmila Moga – work in the same organisation (Gagauz-gas), which is also prohibited by the law.
SB Chairman, Igor Ianak was invited to PC meeting, but he did not come due to personal reasons.
After the discussions, MPs dismissed two members of SB – Ludmila Moga and Ivan Terzi. The resignation letters submitted on 4 July by three other members of the SB – Andrei Romanov, Nikolai Slavutki and Iurii Osevatiuk were approved at the same meeting.
Thus, the Board became literally inoperative and MPs voted for the dissolution of the SB of GRT.
Bashkan Irina Vlah welcomed the MPs’ decision and urged them, as soon as possible, to organise a new contest to select new membership of the SB of GRT on the basis of professional, not political criteria.
As reported previously by experts from the region, GRT was permanently the target of local politicians, who wanted to control the regional public TV channel, being one of the best rated in Gagauzia.
Note that the Chisinau Broadcasting Council has recently voted for the proposal to dismiss the current membership of the Supervisory Board of ‘Teleradio-Moldova’ Public Company, on the ground that it did not fulfill its duties and became an ineffective body.
