According to the decision, the new SDB composition will include Arcadie Gherasim and Sergiu Stanciu, proposed by the parliamentary majority; Corneliu Popovici, proposed by the opposition; and four people from the civil society – Aurelian Dănilă, Loretta Handrabura, Cristian Jardan, and Irina Mațenco.
During the debates, PAS party MP Vasile Șoimaru asked Aurelian Dănilă about the Romanian revolution, which took place towards the end of 1989, when the candidate was the cultural attaché of the Soviet Embassy in Bucharest, and if he played any role in the events of that time. “Did I play a role? Interesting question... I don’t know if I did. I was part of the embassy, working as a cultural attaché, and there were so many relevant specialists that they no longer needed cultural attachés to play a role in that revolution. I was in the audience, as Eminescu would have said,” Aurelian Dănilă replied.
Liliana Nicolaescu-Onofrei said that, within the parliamentary commission on the media, all candidates were accepted with nine votes, except for Cristian Jardan, supported by seven MPs.
In the plenum of the Parliament, 81 MPs voted for Arcadie Gherasim, Corneliu Popovici and Cristian Jardan. Sergiu Stanciu and Loretta Handrabura received 80 votes from MPs. 75 MPs voted for Aurelian Dănilă, and Vasile Șoimaru voted against. Irina Mațenco received 79 votes.
The Parliament’s decision on the appointment of SDB members shall enter into force on the date of its adoption.
The members of the SDB are appointed for a single six-year term.
The new SDB is to propose to the Parliament the candidate for the position of general director of the national public provider of media services, who is to be appointed for a term of six years.
The former members of the Supervisory and Development Board were dismissed in corpore on November 5, when the respective amendments to the Code of Audiovisual Media Services entered into force.
