A group of young activists has recently launched an application that helps identifying suspect profiles on Facebook. It is the Trolless app, created with the support of the Independent Journalism Center, and it became the topic of this week’s edition of the “Media Azi” show, discussed by journalist Dumitru Lazur and his guest, Victor Spinu, one of the Trolless app’s authors.

According to Victor Spinu, a particular species of trolls activates in Moldova. They are people who get paid, have well-organized activity and well-defined goals. “We found out that their activities are intensely politicized,” he says.

So, how does the Trolless app work? Do you have to install it on your personal computer in order to track down a troll on Facebook? What do we do when we find a troll on our personal Facebook account? Answers to these questions can be found in the 21st edition of the show.

Here, you can also hear how many hundreds of trolls have already been tracked down due to the app and how many persons have already installed Trolless on their computers, as well as who pays trolls and why they need them on Facebook and on other social networks.

“Our goal is not to make a database with all trolls in Moldova, but to draw public attention to the existence of this phenomenon. The best advice in fighting trolls is to ignore and block them,” added Victor Spinu.
