“Media Azi” Broadcast, 29th Edition: The Case of Jurnal TV: an Attack on the Freedom of Press or a Commercial Conflict?

The topic discussed by Nicolae Negru and his guest, Arcadie Gherasim, journalist and university lecturer, in the first edition of “Media Azi” broadcasted in 2017 is the recent conflict between “Jurnal Trust Media” and “Skytower” Business Centre and its reasons.

According to the managers of “Jurnal Trust Media”, the demand of “Skytower” Business Centre to vacate the premises rented for over six years is in fact an attack on the media and a pressure exerted by certain politicians. In response, the administration of “Skytower” explained that their demand was determined by purely commercial grounds, namely by Jurnal TV’s rent arrears for a certain period of time.

During the discussion, Nicolae Negru and Arcadie Gherasim tried to find answers to such questions: Is it possible that a media outlet exists today as a business entity in the Republic of Moldova? How is the rating of a TV channel measured? What is a TV audience measurement? Which is the most competent organisation in Moldova to make a TV rating from the viewpoint of the audience?
