In the period of 14-16 July 2017, the Independent Journalism Center and Internews will hold a new Media Hackathon “The Fifth Power”. This year, the participants’ mission will be to develop new projects and applications that would help the media to make money from the online content.

At its third edition, the topic of the “Fifth Power” Media Hackathon is “How to make money on the Internet”. Journalists will be encouraged to build new relationships with the public, so that the consumer becomes interested in financing certain media products and can donate directly through some apps.

IT developers, programmers, journalists, designers, bloggers, civic activists, etc. will attend the event. The guest experts and mentors of the event will help participants during the hackathon to develop their ideas.

Three winning teams, named by the jury, will be awarded $4,000 for further development and implementation of the projects. The projects will be public and free.

On 14 July, the first day of the Hackathon, the authors of the projects entered for the event will present their ideas in a predefined format.

During the second day of the event, on 15 July, guest experts will hold presentations and master classes on topics such as: “What and how to produce for and with the help of the audience”, “Native Advertising: what it is, how it works and how it is created”, “Diversity in the media: from news to traffic and entertainment”, etc. After the master classes, the teams will start working on their projects.

On the third day of the Hackathon, 16 July, the teams will continue working on project development and will receive help from mentors. At the end of the day, demo projects will be completed and final presentations, not exceeding 5 minutes, will be put together according to the format made available by the organizers of the event.

At the end of the Hackathon, 3 winning projects will be designated.

All information about the preliminary program of the event and the participation rules can be found on the event’s official website: hackathon3.media-azi.md.
