Media literacy lessons, discussion clubs, media monitoring in the electoral campaign – these are just some of the activities on the IJC agenda for November.
The Training and Communication Department will continue the media literacy lessons in schools and universities, both from Chișinău and outside the capital. Also, in this month, a group of 15 journalists from Moldova will visit Romania, Czech Republic and Hungary in order to learn from the experience of their colleagues regarding the covering of subjects related to European integration. Next to this, the Training and Communication department invites journalists to a press club where an actual unsolved problem of Moldovan journalists will be discussed, namely: the press access to the Parliament meeting room.
Media-Azi and Research Department will continue to cover current media events and provide actual information for the readers. As we are in the electoral campaign, we will pay attention towards everything that appears in the media in this period and we will take notice of the potential deviations from the ethical norms. The recently launched commentaries rubric will publish more exhaustive materials about the journalists’ behavior in the electoral campaign, legal provisions that harm the freedom of speech, access to information, involvement of politics in the media and the consequences of such a phenomenon in R. Moldova. In the interviews rubric we will keep on reflecting the opinions of different experts regarding the media sector in Moldova.
The Media Law and Policy Department will launch a new edition of the legal bulletin, for the period September-October, and will continue to offer consultations in any problem related to media law, journalists’ rights and obligations.
The Chisinau School of Advanced Journalism will begin the course of TV journalism, preceded by practical lessons of using the video cameras and the image editing programs. During three weeks, the students will learn from TV journalists and producers about the components and processes in a TV, starting from the working session to the appearance on the screen: selection, editing and arranging the subjects in a TV news program. Also, on Thursdays, bi-monthly, the students will meet the ambassadors of the countries, members of the European Union, in Republic Moldova, in order to discuss about the experience of these countries within the EU, the process of EU integration, as well as about the activities of these embassies in R. Moldova.
IJC activities are funded by European Union; the Embassy of the United States of America to Moldova; Civil Rights Defenders (Sweden); Media Legal Defence Initiative, USA Agency for International Development (USAID), Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Mission to Moldova etc.
