The IJC Announces Public Preferences in the Media

The main sources of information and entertainment in Moldova are television and the Internet, used by 67.8% and 61.3% of information consumers. People turn to radio more rarely (18.2%), and only occasionally to newspapers (2.0%) and magazines (1.6%). Among the most preferred topics are social issues, followed by the fight against corruption, and political issues. These are the data of the national survey released on December 19 by the Independent Journalism Center (IJC).

Prime TV is the most viewed in Moldova, being watched by 46.7% of viewers. It is followed by Jurnal TV with 25.8%, Moldova 1 with 25.5%. RTR Moldova ranks fourth with a score of 21.3%, followed by Pro TV Chisinau with 21%.
In the national radio segment, the public radio station Radio Moldova Actualităti, with programs of general nature, is on  the first place among radio listeners’ preferences (24%), followed by Radio Noroc (19.7%), Jurnal FM (14.3 %), Radio Plai (13.3%), and Kiss FM (10.5%).

Among the most popular newspapers are Timpul (20.1%), Komsomolskaya Pravda (19.7%), Ziarul de Garda (13.3%), Jurnal de Chisinau (12.9%), Makler (7.2%), and Argumenty I Fakty (6.5%). Among magazines, Aquarelle (9.3%), VIP Magazin (6.1%), and Sanatate (3.9%) are the most preferred.

Overall, social networks are strongly favored by survey participants, the Russian platform Odnoklassniki surpassing the American Facebook in the preferences of Moldovan users. Among the portals that post news, point.md and protv.md were the most popular in the reporting period.

The survey of the Moldovan media audience identified the information resources most commonly read / listened to / watched by the public, but also the degree of credibility of the media products offered by these media sources. Respondents appreciate Prime TV presenters the most (20.2%), and consider that this station has the most varied program (13.9%). In terms of news credibility and quality of talk shows, Jurnal TV is ahead (14.5% versus 15%, and 14.9% versus 18.1%).

The study was conducted by the Independent Sociology and Information Service OPINIA in the period of October 7-24, 2017, on a sample of 1,200 respondents, comprising 68 localities in Moldova. The margin of error is +/- 3%.
