The Independent Journalism Center (IJC) is continuing the advocacy campaign to ensure free access of the press to Parliament meetings, so that media representatives can cover objectively and comprehensively the works of the legislative body and provide accurate information to citizens.
Several journalists have appeared in a video spot produced by the IJC, in which they are asking for compliance with their right to work freely, considering that freedom of the press also involves free access of journalists to information.
We shall remind that earlier, during the Press Freedom Days, the IJC and other media organizations organized a flashmob in front of the Parliament building under the slogan “Corrals are for sheep, not for us!” The problem was also debated at a Press Club organized by the IJC in November 2014. The experts that participated in discussions drew attention to the fact that the restriction of media access to the Parliament is an urgent problem not only for the press, but also for the society as a whole, and that such restrictions violate citizens’ right to be informed on the issues concerning public interest.
This video has been produced as part of the “Advocacy campaigns to ensure media ownership transparency, access to information, promotion of values and European integration” project, implemented by the Independent Journalism Center. Its production became possible due to the generous help of the American people through the US Agency for International Development (USAID). The opinions are those of the Independent Journalism Center and might not reflect the position of the USAID or of the US Government.
