The Independent Journalism Center (IJC) and the Press Freedom Committee (PFC) are launching the 24th edition of the Annual Press Club Gala, which will award the ‘Journalists of the Year’ 2018 prizes. Through this event, which has become a tradition, organisers aim at encouraging the efforts of journalists to make high quality journalism in the Republic of Moldova, adhering to international professional standards.
This year, journalists from the national and local press are encouraged to attend a contest of materials published between 1 October 2017 and 31 October 2018. The materials can be proposed by both authors and editorial officers on behalf of the authors.
This year, prizes will be awarded for the following categories:
- Investigation (TV, radio, print media, online)
- TV/radio show
- TV report
- Radio report
- Print media report
- Longread (multimedia)
- Photo
Besides, the following special prizes will be awarded:
- Debutant of the year
- Progress of the year
- Hope of the year
- The best blog/vlog
- The best media campaign
- The best reflection of the realities in the regions of the Republic of Moldova by the local press
- Innovative journalism (media innovations)
- Award of Excellence
The application file will include:
• Up to 3 own journalistic materials (copies and/or original, audio, video materials, Links, PDFs, etc.) made and published between 1 October 2017 and 31 October 2018.
• Updated CV(s)
• A statement on the authenticity of the journalistic materials signed by each participant. The document can be found HERE

Documents and journalistic materials can be sent to Mariana Tabuncic, IJC program coordinator - at comunicare@ijc.md. Participants will also be able to submit the entries at the IJC office: 53 Sciusev Street, Chisinau. Deadline for file submission: 31 October 2018.
Journalistic materials will be assessed by a jury of experts from civil society and media, taking into account the following criteria:
- compliance with professional criteria of the genre
- topicality of theme
- depth of materials
- degree of public interest satisfaction
- compliance with ethical and professional principles
- impact (visibility, takeover by other media, reactions and self-notifications from authorities, etc.).
Laureates will be chosen by 9 members of IJC Board and IJC Founders Meeting. The prizes will be awarded at the Annual Press Club Gala, which will take place on 6 December 2018.
